Djamilla's journey into body awareness, feminine wisdom, and birth sovereignty has been shaped by her lifelong connection to movement and her profound experiences of motherhood. Educated as a birth doula 13 years ago, she has been empowering women in various capacities ever since.
She conceived both of her children naturally, her first at 36 and her second at 42, giving birth at 43. While she deeply desired a home birth, her first labor became an intense 88-hour journey that ended in a hospital C-section and separation from her newborn. The interventions, medicalized environment, and loss of autonomy left a lasting impact. That experience ignited a deep determination to reclaim birth as a sacred, undisturbed process.
Before her second pregnancy, Djamilla began developing Somatic Awareness, a movement practice designed to deepen the connection between movement and inner awareness while honoring the body’s innate intelligence.
Through her work in body expression and somatic movement, she explored how unconscious patterns, trauma, and emotions could be processed and released through dance and movement. She guided women in using intuitive movement as a tool for embodiment, healing, and feminine empowerment.
Over time, Somatic Awareness became the foundation of her approach to pregnancy and birth. By strengthening her connection to her body’s wisdom, she prepared to navigate birth with trust and confidence. Her experience reaffirmed a simple yet profound truth:
When we learn to release the tension and trauma stored in our bodies, we cultivate resilience, confidence, and a deeper trust in ourselves, both in birth and beyond.
When she became pregnant at 42, Djamilla knew she had to rewrite her birth story. She spent her pregnancy unlearning fear-based conditioning, strengthening her mind-body connection, and preparing to birth on her own terms.
Labor began unexpectedly in the middle of California rush hour, a moment that symbolized her ability to surrender fully to the flow of life. With the extraordinary guidance of midwife Kelly Murphy, Djamilla gave birth to her second child at home, without intervention, in full trust of her body and baby.
Djamilla’s journey through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum reaffirmed what she had always known: movement is a portal to deeper self-awareness, resilience, and healing.
Through Somatic Awareness and Bio-Optimization, she guides women to:
Her mission is to help women step into their full power—whether in birth, motherhood, or everyday life. She believes that when a woman is truly connected to her body, she births differently, moves differently, and lives differently.
She is especially passionate about supporting women seeking VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), helping them regain trust in their bodies and approach birth with confidence, empowerment, and the knowledge that a different birth experience is possible.
Because birth is more than a physical event, it is a rite of passage. And every woman deserves to walk through it feeling strong, sovereign, and deeply supported.
